Mais ses cons\u00e9quences n\u00e9fastes, vont au-del\u00e0 de ces seuls principes moraux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elle nous emp\u00eache de profiter pleinement de la richesse de notre diversit\u00e9, dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et dans les entreprises. Mais elle ronge aussi la sant\u00e9 physique et psychique des personnes discrimin\u00e9es<sup>1 <\/sup>(et pas seulement elles, comme nous le verrons).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00eame en mettant de c\u00f4t\u00e9 l\u2019importance \u00e9thique de les prot\u00e9ger et en adoptant un point de vue purement pragmatique, l\u2019impact de la discrimination sur la sant\u00e9 des collaborateur.rice.s a des cons\u00e9quences n\u00e9fastes sur l\u2019entreprise&nbsp;: baisse d\u2019engagement, de productivit\u00e9, augmentation des accidents de travail et des arr\u00eats maladies, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quels impacts de la discrimination sur la sant\u00e9&nbsp;?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>En 2015, une m\u00e9ta-analyse de 293 \u00e9tudes scientifiques<sup>2<\/sup> a montr\u00e9 que la discrimination a de multiples cons\u00e9quences n\u00e9gatives sur la sant\u00e9 physiologique et psychologique des personnes victimes de racisme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parmi ces cons\u00e9quences, on compte&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Des atteintes du syst\u00e8me cardiovasculaire<sup>3<\/sup><\/li><li>Un indice de masse corporelle et des taux d\u2019ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s<sup>4<\/sup><\/li><li>De l\u2019hypertension<sup>5<\/sup><\/li><li>Des comportements \u00e0 risque plus fr\u00e9quents<sup>6<\/sup><\/li><li>Une plus grande consommation d\u2019alcool<sup>7<\/sup><\/li><li>Des troubles du sommeil<sup>8<\/sup><\/li><li>La d\u00e9pression<sup>9<\/sup><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>La discrimination g\u00e9n\u00e8re un stress sur l\u2019organisme et fait appara\u00eetre des signes pr\u00e9cliniques. Ceux-ci rendent les personnes concern\u00e9es plus vuln\u00e9rables aux maladies. En 2015, une \u00e9quipe de recherche<sup>10<\/sup> a recens\u00e9 les signes suivants&nbsp;: augmentation de la charge allostatique (accumulation de stress), inflammation, t\u00e9lom\u00e8res plus courts (vieillissement plus rapide), calcification des art\u00e8res coronaires, d\u00e9r\u00e9gulation de la production de cortisol et plus grand stress oxydant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une menace trop r\u00e9elle&nbsp;: l\u2019anticipation de la discrimination<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019impact n\u00e9gatif de la discrimination sur la sant\u00e9 va plus loin. Subir r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement la discrimination incite ses victimes \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rioriser. En cons\u00e9quence, ces personnes montrent de l\u2019appr\u00e9hension devant les situations o\u00f9 la discrimination pourrait resurgir. Elles deviennent plus vigilantes, plus inqui\u00e8tes et endurent en permanence un stress d\u2019anticipation. Ce dernier accentue et prolonge les effets n\u00e9gatifs de la discrimination sur la sant\u00e9<sup>11<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette appr\u00e9hension devant la discrimination est associ\u00e9e \u00e0 ses propres effets n\u00e9gatifs sur la sant\u00e9 physique et psychique&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>D\u00e9t\u00e9rioration de l\u2019\u00e9lasticit\u00e9 des art\u00e8res<sup>12<\/sup><\/li><li>Sympt\u00f4mes d\u00e9pressifs<sup>13<\/sup><\/li><li>Troubles du sommeil<sup>14<\/sup><\/li><li>Hypertension<sup>15<\/sup><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette atteinte \u00e0 la bonne sant\u00e9 des personnes semble principalement d\u00e9couler du stress qui lui-m\u00eame nait des discriminations subites et anticip\u00e9es. L\u2019alt\u00e9ration de la sant\u00e9 augmente avec la quantit\u00e9 de stress. Ce r\u00f4le central du stress persiste m\u00eame en prenant en compte les disparit\u00e9s socio-\u00e9conomiques entre les personnes issues de minorit\u00e9s ou de majorit\u00e9s<sup>16<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Voir la discrimination et en souffrir&nbsp;: la discrimination indirecte<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais le probl\u00e8me va encore plus loin. Apprendre que des personnes de notre communaut\u00e9 subissent de la discrimination a \u00e9galement un impact sur notre sant\u00e9<sup>17<\/sup>. Ainsi, voir par exemple George Floyd mourir a des r\u00e9percussions sur la sant\u00e9 de toute la communaut\u00e9 noire-am\u00e9ricaine, et noire en g\u00e9n\u00e9rale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 2018, une revue de la litt\u00e9rature scientifique sur le sujet<sup>18<\/sup> met en avant cette atteinte par procuration chez les enfants. Lorsque leurs parents subissent de la discrimination, ces enfants voient leur d\u00e9veloppement physique et mental perturb\u00e9. A cela s\u2019ajoutent des cons\u00e9quences en termes d\u2019anxi\u00e9t\u00e9, de sympt\u00f4mes d\u00e9pressifs, de consommation de substances dangereuses, d\u2019estime de soi, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De m\u00eame, une \u00e9tude quasi-exp\u00e9rimentale \u00e9tatsunienne<sup>19<\/sup> a montr\u00e9 que l\u2019exposition \u00e0 des homicides d\u2019afro-am\u00e9ricains non-arm\u00e9s (\u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, sur internet, \u2026) induit une baisse de la sant\u00e9 mentale chez les participants afro-am\u00e9ricains. Cet effet grimpait durant les deux premiers mois apr\u00e8s l\u2019exposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Lutter contre la discrimination au travail contribue \u00e0 la protection de la sant\u00e9 physiologique et psychologique des collaborateurs et des collaboratrices appartenant \u00e0 des minorit\u00e9s. Ainsi, en plus de son importance \u00e9thique et moral, intervenir contre la discrimination limite les baisses de performances caus\u00e9es par un environnement de travail malveillant et stressant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A l\u2019inverse, un environnement de travail favorable \u00e0 la diversit\u00e9 \u00e9touffe les discriminations et privil\u00e9gie la tol\u00e9rance.
