Mais cette m\u00e9thode est-elle\nvraiment efficace&nbsp;? Quelles sont ses limites&nbsp;? Comment la rendre plus\nperformante&nbsp;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Les 4 r\u00e8gles originelles d\u2019Alex Osborn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Revenons d\u2019abord aux origines, en 1953. Alex Osborn part de l\u2019id\u00e9e qu\u2019un groupe sera meilleur qu\u2019une somme d\u2019individus s\u00e9par\u00e9s. Il propose alors quatre r\u00e8gles \u00e0 suivre pour un bon brainstorming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voici les 4 r\u00e8gles d&rsquo;Alex Osborn :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Chercher le plus grand nombre d\u2019id\u00e9es possibles<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Accepter toutes les id\u00e9es, m\u00eame inhabituelles ou farfelues<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>\u00c9viter la critique des id\u00e9es<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Ne pas h\u00e9siter \u00e0 combiner et am\u00e9liorer les id\u00e9es<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Globalement, les travaux scientifiques qui ont suivi ont montr\u00e9\nqu\u2019Osborn avait vu juste pour la majorit\u00e9 de ses propositions, mais pas pour\ntoutes<sup>1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/mediacdn.hamilton.edu\/images\/3:4\/300\/pfmjivqhygwxrkeo.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Alex Osborn (1888-1966), inventeur du brainstorming<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vers un brainstorming efficace<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Voyons quelques variations possibles autour du brainstorming\net comment elles peuvent am\u00e9liorer ou non l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 de cette m\u00e9thode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">En groupe ou s\u00e9par\u00e9ment&nbsp;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019id\u00e9e est fortement r\u00e9pandue qu\u2019un groupe est plus performant qu\u2019une somme d\u2019individus travaillant s\u00e9par\u00e9ment et notamment que le groupe donnera des id\u00e9es en plus grand nombre et de meilleure qualit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vraiment&nbsp;? Non&nbsp;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De nombreux travaux<sup>1<\/sup> ont compar\u00e9 des groupes interagissant \u00e0 des groupes nominaux (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire des ensembles de personnes travaillant s\u00e9par\u00e9ment, sans interaction). Ces \u00e9tudes (effectu\u00e9es dans plusieurs pays, avec diff\u00e9rentes m\u00e9thodes, des ann\u00e9es 50 \u00e0 nos jours) donnent un r\u00e9sultat sans \u00e9quivoque&nbsp;: nous sommes plus performants en faisant un brainstorming s\u00e9par\u00e9ment qu\u2019en le faisant en groupe. Le brainstorming de groupe aboutit \u00e0 une baisse de la quantit\u00e9 et de la qualit\u00e9 des id\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pourquoi&nbsp;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Socialement, le groupe met en avant le poids du regard des\nautres et la peur qui en r\u00e9sulte (appr\u00e9hension \u00e9valuative). Il favorise la\ntendance \u00e0 tirer au flanc (paresse sociale). Il incite les personnes les plus\nperformantes \u00e0 contribuer autant que les moins performantes (adaptation\nperformative n\u00e9gative).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cognitivement, la situation de groupe emp\u00eache de proposer\ndes id\u00e9es simultan\u00e9ment (blocage de production). Elle cr\u00e9e un climat co\u00fbteux en\nressources cognitives, puisqu\u2019il faut r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir tout en \u00e9coutant les autres\n(interf\u00e9rences cognitives). Elle favorise la tendance \u00e0 se focaliser sur les\nid\u00e9es donn\u00e9es pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment (fixation cognitive).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sur ordinateur ou en pr\u00e9sentiel&nbsp;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Le brainstorming \u00e9lectronique, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire par messagerie\ninstantan\u00e9e, a \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9 comme une solution \u00e0 ces probl\u00e8mes. Il r\u00e9duit le\nblocage de production, comme les participants peuvent \u00e9crire simultan\u00e9ment et\ndonc proposer des id\u00e9es simultan\u00e9ment. Il annule \u00e9galement les interf\u00e9rences\ncognitives. Socialement, il peut permettre l\u2019anonymat des participants et ainsi\ndiminuer le poids du regard des autres. Nous reviendrons sur ce dernier point\nun peu plus loin dans cet article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deux m\u00e9ta-analyses* <sup>2,3<\/sup> ont montr\u00e9 que les\ngroupes virtuels surpassaient les groupes r\u00e9els en quantit\u00e9 et en qualit\u00e9\nd\u2019id\u00e9es. Malgr\u00e9 cela, ces groupes virtuels peinaient toujours \u00e0 d\u00e9passer les\ngroupes nominaux (ensemble de personnes travaillant s\u00e9par\u00e9ment).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Une m\u00e9ta-analyse est une m\u00e9thode scientifique visant \u00e0 analyser conjointement les r\u00e9sultats issus de nombreuses \u00e9tudes pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avec ou sans anonymat&nbsp;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Concernant l&rsquo;anonymat, il devrait prot\u00e9ger l\u2019identit\u00e9 des\nmembres du groupe du regard des autres. Autrement dit, il permettrait de\nr\u00e9duire la peur de voir nos id\u00e9es rejet\u00e9es par le reste du groupe, puisque leur\norigine n\u2019est pas identifiable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les r\u00e9sultats sont assez mitig\u00e9s \u00e0 ce propos. Si l\u2019anonymat\nprot\u00e8ge du regard des autres, il facilite aussi la paresse sociale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avec ou sans pause&nbsp;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Prendre une pause pendant la session de brainstorming semble\n\u00eatre une technique, simple certes, mais efficace pour am\u00e9liorer la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9.\nEn plus de reposer les participants, elle leur permet de sortir du cadre du\nbrainstorming et d\u2019oublier un peu les id\u00e9es d\u00e9j\u00e0 propos\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cela, elle r\u00e9duit notre tendance \u00e0 rester fix\u00e9s sur\nces id\u00e9es pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes et nous ouvre de nouveaux horizons. Autrement dit, elle\nr\u00e9duit la fixation cognitive<sup>4<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avec ou sans facilitateur&nbsp;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Un facilitateur est un manager en charge de l\u2019\u00e9quipe du\nbrainstorming et ayant pour objectif d\u2019aider ses membres \u00e0 mener \u00e0 bien leur\nt\u00e2che. En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, son travail consiste \u00e0 rappeler les r\u00e8gles du brainstorming\net \u00e0 garder l\u2019\u00e9quipe concentr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La recherche montre que la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019un facilitateur permet\nune meilleure performance de l\u2019\u00e9quipe, au moins en termes de quantit\u00e9 d\u2019id\u00e9es\npropos\u00e9es<sup>5<\/sup>. Concernant la qualit\u00e9 des id\u00e9es, son r\u00f4le est s\u00fbrement\nplus d\u00e9l\u00e9t\u00e8re. En effet, en gardant l\u2019\u00e9quipe focalis\u00e9e, le facilitateur emp\u00eache\nla distraction. Or, celle-ci permet \u00e0 l\u2019esprit de se reposer et de se\nd\u00e9sengager de la t\u00e2che, lui permettant de trouver des id\u00e9es plus originales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avec ou sans objectif&nbsp;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La mention d\u2019un objectif \u00e0 atteindre est certainement un bon\nmoyen de motiver l\u2019\u00e9quipe. C\u2019est en tout cas ce que montre la recherche sur ce\npoint. Proposer un objectif clair, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire un nombre d\u2019id\u00e9es \u00e0 atteindre,\naugmente la performance de l\u2019\u00e9quipe<sup>6<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avec ou sans critique&nbsp;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans ses quatre r\u00e8gles, Alex Osborn incite clairement \u00e0\n\u00e9viter de critiquer les id\u00e9es des autres. S\u2019il a \u00e9t\u00e9 particuli\u00e8rement\nvisionnaire pour beaucoup de ses propositions, ce ne semble pas \u00eatre le cas\npour celle-ci. En effet, de nombreuses \u00e9tudes mettent en avant l\u2019importance du\nd\u00e9bat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La discussion autour des id\u00e9es et leur critique met en\nlumi\u00e8re leurs d\u00e9fauts, leurs limites. Elles nous poussent \u00e0 les revoir et les\nam\u00e9liorer. Autrement dit, la critique permet de raffiner les id\u00e9es et\nd\u2019augmenter leur qualit\u00e9<sup>7<\/sup>. On parle alors de conflit cognitif,\nreconnu pour \u00eatre favorable \u00e0 la performance et la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9. Bien s\u00fbr, la\ncritique doit rester bienveillante, sans quoi la t\u00e2che risque de d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rer en\nconflit relationnel aux cons\u00e9quences n\u00e9gatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La question \u00e0 se poser avant de commencer un brainstorming\nporte sur notre priorit\u00e9&nbsp;: cherche-t-on avant tout \u00e0 produire un grand\nnombre d\u2019id\u00e9es (quantit\u00e9) ou plut\u00f4t de bonnes id\u00e9es (qualit\u00e9). Dans le premier\ncas, un facilitateur sera d\u2019une bonne aide, de m\u00eame que fixer un objectif clair\n\u00e0 atteindre. Dans le deuxi\u00e8me cas, l\u2019instauration de pauses et la permission de\ncritiquer (avec bienveillance) permettra d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la qualit\u00e9 des id\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans tous les cas, il semble bien que le brainstorming soit\nplus efficace s\u2019il est fait s\u00e9par\u00e9ment plut\u00f4t qu\u2019en groupe. L\u2019arriv\u00e9e des\nordinateurs a permis de limiter cela. Mais il existe une autre technique,\npourtant tr\u00e8s simple, qui peut permettre de lib\u00e9rer le potentiel des groupes&nbsp;:\nle brainwriting.
