C\u2019est un pas\nsuppl\u00e9mentaire vers la reconnaissance de ce mal qui gangr\u00e8ne la qualit\u00e9 de vie\nau travail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avant d\u2019aller plus, pr\u00e9cisons que, contrairement \u00e0 ce que\nbeaucoup ont pu annoncer, le burnout n\u2019est toujours pas reconnu comme une\nmaladie&nbsp;! En r\u00e9alit\u00e9, il passe du statut de \u00ab&nbsp;facteur influen\u00e7ant\nl\u2019\u00e9tat de sant\u00e9&nbsp;\u00bb \u00e0 \u00ab&nbsp;ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne li\u00e9 au travail&nbsp;\u00bb, mais il\nn\u2019int\u00e8gre toujours pas la liste des maladies reconnues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais, qu\u2019\u00e0 cela ne tienne&nbsp;! Cette avanc\u00e9e est l\u2019occasion pour nous de faire le point sur le burnout. Alors qu\u2019est-ce que le burnout, quelles en sont les causes et les cons\u00e9quences et comment s\u2019en pr\u00e9munir&nbsp;? On vous r\u00e9pond sur LaborAgora&nbsp;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D\u00e9finition du burnout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Christina Maslach et Michael Leiter<sup>1<\/sup>, chercheuse\net chercheur en psychologie, d\u00e9finissent le burnout comme \u00ab&nbsp;un syndrome\npsychologique \u00e9mergeant comme une r\u00e9ponse prolong\u00e9e \u00e0 des stresseurs\ninterpersonnels chroniques sur le lieu de travail&nbsp;\u00bb. Autrement dit, le\nburnout correspond \u00e0 un \u00e9puisement (principalement \u00e9motionnel) li\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019activit\u00e9\nprofessionnelle. Il comporte trois dimensions&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>L\u2019\u00e9puisement<\/strong> : fatigue, perte d\u2019\u00e9nergie, affaiblissement, sentiment d\u2019usure.<\/li><li><strong>Le cynisme&nbsp;vis-\u00e0-vis du travail<\/strong> : d\u00e9personnalisation, attitude n\u00e9gative, irritabilit\u00e9, perte d\u2019id\u00e9alisme, d\u00e9sengagement.<\/li><li><strong>Le manque d&rsquo;accomplissement personnel<\/strong> : sentiment d\u2019inefficacit\u00e9, baisse de productivit\u00e9, moral faible, difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 faire face aux probl\u00e8mes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019apparition de ces trois \u00e9l\u00e9ments s\u2019\u00e9chelonnent dans le temps. L\u2019\u00e9puisement am\u00e8ne le cynisme, d\u00e9coulant \u00e0 son tour sur une baisse du sentiment d\u2019accomplissement. Le premier cause le deuxi\u00e8me qui am\u00e8ne le troisi\u00e8me.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cons\u00e9quences du burnout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019ampleur nocive du burnout n\u2019est pas anodine. Il peut avoir\nde graves cons\u00e9quences, tant sur le travail que sur la sant\u00e9 de la personne qui\nle subit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concernant le travail, le burnout induit une baisse de la\nsatisfaction, de l\u2019engagement, de la productivit\u00e9 et globalement de la qualit\u00e9\nde vie au travail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concernant la sant\u00e9, le burnout est fortement li\u00e9 au stress.\nEn cela, il peut porter atteinte \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 physique de la personne, causant\ndes maux de t\u00eate, un \u00e9tat de fatigue chronique, des troubles gastriques, une\nhypertension musculaire, des troubles du sommeil, etc<sup>2<\/sup>. Ses\nvictimes, par leur attitude n\u00e9gative et leur tendance au cynisme, peuvent\ndevenir toxiques pour leurs coll\u00e8gues. A cause de leurs sympt\u00f4mes, elles\npeuvent g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des conflits et perturber le bon d\u00e9roulement du travail. Ce\nfaisant, elles favorisent l\u2019\u00e9mergence du burnout chez leurs coll\u00e8gues, comme\nl\u2019a montr\u00e9 une \u00e9tude n\u00e9erlandaise<sup>4<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais d\u2019o\u00f9 vient le burnout&nbsp;? Quels facteurs favorise\nson apparition&nbsp;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Causes du burnout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La conception et les besoins que nous avons concernant notre\ntravail peuvent s\u2019\u00e9loigner de notre v\u00e9cu professionnel r\u00e9el. C\u2019est cet \u00e9cart\nqui fait \u00e9merger le stress \u00e0 l\u2019origine du burnout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le mod\u00e8le <em>Six Areas of\nWorklife<\/em><sup>5<\/sup> peut nous aider \u00e0 mieux comprendre cela. Il propose\nque notre vie professionnelle est organis\u00e9e autour de six composantes. L\u2019\u00e9cart\ntravail-personne sur chacune d\u2019elles peut devenir une source de stress et\nouvrir au burnout. Voyons ces composantes en d\u00e9tails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>La charge\nde travail<\/strong> concerne le rapport entre la demande de notre travail et nos\nressources physiques et psychologiques. Si la charge exc\u00e8de r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement nos\ncapacit\u00e9s, sans nous laisser le temps de nous reposer, ni de nous ressourcer,\nelle cr\u00e9e un \u00e9tat de stress et d\u2019\u00e9puisement.<\/li><li><strong>Le\ncontr\u00f4le<\/strong> correspond \u00e0 la perception qu\u2019il nous est possible d\u2019influencer\nnos conditions de travail et au sentiment d\u2019\u00eatre autonome. Sans contr\u00f4le, nous\nnous sentons perdre pied et subissons nos conditions de travail dans un sentiment\nd\u2019impuissance.<\/li><li><strong>Les r\u00e9compenses<\/strong>\nne r\u00e9f\u00e8rent pas seulement aux retours financiers auxquels notre travail nous\npermet de pr\u00e9tendre. Elles concernent aussi la reconnaissance sociale. Leur\nabsence d\u00e9value notre travail, autant que nous-m\u00eame, et \u00e9veille en nous un\nsentiment d\u2019inutilit\u00e9.<\/li><li><strong>La communaut\u00e9<\/strong>\nconcerne nos relations sociales au travail. L\u2019apparition de conflits, le manque\nde confiance ou de soutien favorisent le burnout.<\/li><li><strong>L\u2019\u00e9quit\u00e9<\/strong>\ncorrespond \u00e0 la perception d\u2019une certaine justice sociale au travail, que la\nplace de chacun est \u00e9quitable et juste, et que nous sommes respect\u00e9s \u00e0 juste\ntitre. Un manque ouvre au cynisme et \u00e0 l\u2019aigreur.<\/li><li><strong>Les\nvaleurs<\/strong> s\u2019incarnent dans nos attentes et nos objectifs \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de notre\ntravail, ainsi que dans nos id\u00e9aux. Si l\u2019\u00e9cart entre nos valeurs et celles de\nl\u2019organisation qui nous emploie est trop grand, nous aurons le sentiment de ne\npas nous r\u00e9aliser et que notre emploi est purement alimentaire. Cet \u00e9cart ouvre\nau d\u00e9sengagement et \u00e0 la d\u00e9motivation.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce d\u00e9coupage de l\u2019environnement\nprofessionnel nous aide \u00e0 mieux comprendre les sources possibles du burnout.\nC\u2019est un premier pas vers sa pr\u00e9vention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pr\u00e9vention du burnout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pr\u00e9venir le burnout peut se conduire sur les trois leviers\nque sont le travail lui-m\u00eame, les relations sociales et nous-m\u00eames. Voici\nquelques pistes<sup>1,6<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Changer\nl\u2019organisation du travail<\/strong>, en r\u00e9duisant la charge de travail (par exemple,\nen embauchant), en favorisant la prise de pauses, en r\u00e9\u00e9quilibrant la balance\nentre la vie professionnelle et la vie personnelle (par exemple, en permettant\ndes am\u00e9nagements sp\u00e9ciaux), etc.<\/li><li><strong>D\u00e9velopper\ndes strat\u00e9gies anti-burnout<\/strong>, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire se former \u00e0 la gestion du temps\nde travail, \u00e0 la r\u00e9solution des conflits, d\u00e9velopper des process plus\nefficaces, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Chercher\ndu soutien<\/strong> aupr\u00e8s de ses coll\u00e8gues et de ses proches, et leur donner notre\nsoutien et notre confiance en retour<sup>7<\/sup>.<\/li><li><strong>D\u00e9velopper\ndes relations saines au travail<\/strong>, en mettant en avant la citoyennet\u00e9, la\ncoh\u00e9sion et la bienveillance<sup>8<\/sup>.<\/li><li><strong>Adopter\nun mode de vie sain<\/strong>, afin d\u2019\u00eatre plus r\u00e9sistant au stress et \u00e0 la fatigue.<\/li><li><strong>Mieux se\ncomprendre<\/strong> pour \u00e9viter de tomber dans les pi\u00e8ges tendus par le burnout\n(conflits relationnels, perte de confiance en soi, etc.).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien s\u00fbr, cette liste n\u2019est pas exhaustive, d\u2019autant qu\u2019il\nexiste de nombreuses formations \u00e0 la pr\u00e9vention du burnout. Elle montre\nn\u00e9anmoins que pr\u00e9venir le burnout demande une action globale, concernant l\u2019environnement\nde travail, le travail lui-m\u00eame et notre propre fonctionnement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le burnout est un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne complexe, mais de mieux en mieux\ncompris. M\u00eame s\u2019il n\u2019est pas encore reconnu comme une maladie \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re,\nses cons\u00e9quences n\u2019en sont pas moins malheureuses, pour le travail bien s\u00fbr,\nmais surtout pour la personne qui le subit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le burnout n\u2019est pourtant pas l\u2019affaire d\u2019une seule personne. Il a un caract\u00e8re social<sup>9<\/sup>, souvent n\u00e9glig\u00e9, mais pourtant central. Le burnout d\u00e9pend du soutien que nous nous portons, des conflits que nous r\u00e9solvons, ou de la reconnaissance que nous nous attribuons.
