On y parle\ndu choc des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, de comment bien manager les salari\u00e9s issus de telle\ng\u00e9n\u00e9ration, de comment telle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration voit le travail, etc. Pourtant ce\nd\u00e9coupage en g\u00e9n\u00e9rations est plus proche de la fiction que du fait av\u00e9r\u00e9. Mais\nil est surtout dangereux pour le monde du travail. Regardons cela de plus\npr\u00e8s&nbsp;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u00e9j\u00e0, de quoi parle-t-on exactement&nbsp;? Si le concept de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration tire ses origines de la sociologie, la conception v\u00e9hicul\u00e9e dans le monde du travail est en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 plut\u00f4t une cr\u00e9ation journalistique. Cette id\u00e9e propose de classer les personnes comme pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ci-dessous. Ces auteur-e-s\najoutent qu\u2019il n\u2019y a, de toute fa\u00e7on, pas vraiment de raison th\u00e9orique que de\ntelles distinctions existent. Dans la m\u00eame veine, Emma Parry et Peter Urwin<sup>2\n<\/sup>proposent d\u2019ignorer cette conception devant le manque d\u2019arguments en sa\nfaveur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien s\u00fbr, il serait exag\u00e9r\u00e9 de\ndire qu\u2019il n\u2019y a aucune diff\u00e9rence entre les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations. L\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re\n(2018), Jeffrey Cucina et ses coll\u00e8gues<sup>3<\/sup> ont \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les diff\u00e9rences\nentre g\u00e9n\u00e9rations concernant plusieurs attitudes \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard du travail\n(satisfaction, engagement, etc.). <strong>Des\ndiff\u00e9rences existent, mais elles sont faibles, souvent n\u00e9gligeables<\/strong>. En\n2008, Melissa Wong et ses coll\u00e8gues<sup>4<\/sup> montraient d\u00e9j\u00e0 des r\u00e9sultats\nsimilaires concernant la personnalit\u00e9 et la motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De mani\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 parait bien loin des st\u00e9r\u00e9otypes v\u00e9hicul\u00e9s dans le monde du travail, comme le concluaient John Becton et ses coll\u00e8gues<sup>5<\/sup>. En effet, il s\u2019agit bien de st\u00e9r\u00e9otypes et, en tant que tels, ils peuvent amener des d\u00e9rives dangereuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une conception dangereuse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Les diff\u00e9rences que nous percevons entre les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations sont largement sup\u00e9rieures aux diff\u00e9rences r\u00e9elles. C\u2019est ce qu\u2019ont montr\u00e9 Scott Lester et ses coll\u00e8gues<sup>6<\/sup> en \u00e9valuant les diff\u00e9rences r\u00e9elles et per\u00e7ues entre g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, concernant leurs pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences li\u00e9es au travail (travail d\u2019\u00e9quipe, autonomie, s\u00e9curit\u00e9, flexibilit\u00e9, etc.). Autrement dit, notre vision des membres des diff\u00e9rentes g\u00e9n\u00e9rations est biais\u00e9e. Consid\u00e9rer que les \u00ab&nbsp;millennials&nbsp;\u00bb sont obs\u00e9d\u00e9s par leur image est du m\u00eame niveau que dire aux femmes qu\u2019elles sont moins bonnes en math que les hommes&nbsp;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conserver cette perception d\u2019un monde qui n\u2019existe pas vraiment est dangereux. Comme l\u2019a montr\u00e9 Annick van Rossem<sup>7<\/sup>, <strong>cette conception ouvre la voie \u00e0 des st\u00e9r\u00e9otypes g\u00e9n\u00e9rationnels et \u00e0 l\u2019apparition de pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s<\/strong>. En fa\u00e7onnant des cat\u00e9gories sociales, cette conception nous incite \u00e0 classer nos coll\u00e8gues entre \u00ab&nbsp;ceux qui sont comme nous&nbsp;\u00bb et \u00ab&nbsp;ceux qui nous sont diff\u00e9rents&nbsp;\u00bb. Mais ces conceptions sont tr\u00e8s souvent biais\u00e9es et la porte ouverte \u00e0 la discrimination<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La distinction entre plusieurs\ng\u00e9n\u00e9rations, avec des attitudes diff\u00e9rentes \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard du travail, se d\u00e9sagr\u00e8ge\n\u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re des r\u00e9sultats de la recherche scientifique. Certes, des\ndiff\u00e9rences existent, mais elles sont faibles, souvent n\u00e9gligeables. Les\ndiff\u00e9rences que nous percevons sont donc largement sur\u00e9valu\u00e9es. Qui plus est,\ncette conception est la porte ouverte \u00e0 des d\u00e9rives. Elle g\u00e9n\u00e8re des pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s,\ndes st\u00e9r\u00e9otypes et encourage la discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais le probl\u00e8me est plus grand\nqu\u2019il n\u2019en a l\u2019air. Les (pseudo-)th\u00e9ories qui sous-tendent cette conception\napporte de la l\u00e9gitimit\u00e9 \u00e0 cette discrimination et \u00e0 ces pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s. Elles leur\ndonnent du cr\u00e9dit, sous couvert de formations, d\u2019infographies ou de\nconf\u00e9rences. A une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 la lutte contre les pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s et les\ndiscriminations au travail se d\u00e9m\u00e8ne pour l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9, ces distinctions\ng\u00e9n\u00e9rationnelles ont l\u2019allure d\u2019un retour en arri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pourtant, ne gagnerions-nous pas \u00e0 nous rappeler que chacun est unique, et \u00e0 consid\u00e9rer l\u2019autre en tant que personne, plut\u00f4t qu\u2019en tant que membre d\u2019une cat\u00e9gorie sociale donn\u00e9e&nbsp;? Ceci ne nous donnerait-il pas une vision plus juste, plus vrai d\u2019elle ou de lui&nbsp;?
